Wrong pronunciations may occur especially with uncommon words or names. If the pronunciation of your AI avatar in AI Studios is not exactly how you want it to sound, you can adjust the spelling of the word to better match the intended pronunciation using our dictionary tool.

Table of Contents

Getting Started

To access the dictionary feature, first highlight the mispronounced word. Then, select the dictionary tool located at the bottom of the script editor. Look for the button with the “æ” or ash symbol.

Using Phonetic Spelling Estimations

For certain words, you can use phonetic spelling estimations based on common English spelling. For example:

  • Rural: Roo-ral

  • Omission: Oh-mish-un

While this method may require some tweaking and trial and error, it is a very intuitive way to adjust the pronunciation of mispronounced words.

Using IPA

AI Studios also allows you to use the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) to refine the pronunciation of words accurately. The IPA provides a unique symbol for each distinctive sound in all languages, which means that, theoretically, your AI avatar can speak in any language! However, we recommend selecting the AI voice designed for the specific language used in your project.

⚠️ Please note that IPA dictionary capabilities are still under development. This feature may experience periods of unavailability.

Listen to Double-Check

When modifying a word using the dictionary tool, make sure to use the "Listen" feature to ensure the new pronunciation is correct. Additionally, the modified word will be underlined to remind you that its pronunciation has been changed.

The International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) is a standardized representation of speech sounds and qualities of speech. Learning to use the IPA is certainly not an easy task, and the chart below only scratches the surface of the nuances and complexity of the system.

We recommend that you first type your intended text into a Phonetic Transcription Converter before using IPA in our script box. Here are a couple of free online English-to-IPA tools we recommend using:
